Overview：
The GYSS is an annual multi-disciplinary summit in Singapore, which gathers some of the world’s foremost scientists and technologists who will engage and inspire aspiring young researchers from around the world. Eminent speakers include recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Millennium Technology Prize and Turing Award, among other luminaries. A series of activities in the Summit, including live plenary lectures, panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and virtual networking platforms. All attendees also stand a chance to win attractive prizes in the GYSS video challenge that showcases their research highlights. You can see the details of the past summits in the following link：

Date: 17 – 20 January 2023
Time: 0800h-1800h (Singapore time)

Venue: Singapore (tentatively at Matrix at Biopolis), with an Online segment

Eligible Applicants：
•　Undergraduate students and Master’s and Doctoral students at UTokyo
•　Young postdoctoral scientists at UTokyo

Eligibility：
•　Not be older than 35 years of age at the time of the Summit;
•　Show a genuine interest in science and research;
•　Show a strong commitment to their principal field of study and to interdisciplinary work;
•　Received the endorsement of an organisation that was invited to provide nominees;
•　Be fluent in English to actively participate in discussions;
•　Not have participated in previous on-site Global Young Scientists Summits, with the　exception for GYSS 2021 and 2022; and
•　Not yet have a permanent position (in general, scientists with permanent positions, in　particular on the professor level, will not be admitted to the Summit).

Mode of participation and slots：
1) For On-Site Participants: up to 1 slots, and
2) For Online Viewers: up to 5 slots.
(*Please note that UTokyo will not send students to Singapore for this call.)

Costs for participation:
Free
(*For On-Site Participants: UTokyo will provide a roundtrip airplane ticket to Singapore. The GYSS Organizing Committee
will cover ONLY the following items for each participant:
• Accommodation during the Summit – twin sharing room at a local hotel;
• Transport from hotel to Summit venue;
• Breakfast and lunch will be catered for daily during the Summit;
• There will be catered dinners on some days; details will be confirmed closer to date.

Selection：
After selection within the university, the nominees from the university will be decided. The results of the selection will be announced in late July. Please note that a nomination does not guarantee an invitation to participate in GYSS 2023. The GYSS Organizing Committee reserves the right to shortlist the nominees.

Notes：
•　The participants understand that they will not be allowed to decline their candidacy or/and be absent from the program once accepted as the program participant. The participants must confirm their own schedule before applying. Withdrawal from the program will only be permitted under exceptional and unavoidable circumstances which the University of Tokyo duly regards to be valid.
•　The On-Site Participants shall take full responsibility of their own preparations and arrangements required to participate in the Program (such as the preparation and submission of paperwork, making necessary travel arrangements, including obtaining passport and visas, completing the procedures required by their Faculty/College or Graduate School or Institute of the University of Tokyo, payment of costs and fees associated with the participation of the Program etc. Also please make sure to have sufficient insurance coverage for the duration of your travel, from the day of departure until the day of return. The On-Site Participants shall abide by the laws, rules and regulations, and codes of conduct set forth by the authority of Japan as well as the host country and the host institution.
•　（Only for students）Before applying, applicants must make sure that the program does not interfere with their UTokyo courses since no considerations will be made to attend the program. Applicants are responsible for making a clear study plan on their own.
•　（Only for students）In case it turned out that participation to the program will affect your study plan at UTokyo, your affiliated College, Faculty, or Graduate School may not permit your participation to the program even after selection.
