Dates of activity: November 11, 2020 – December 25, 2020
The 5th Joint Symposium between the University of Tokyo and Tsinghua University was held for about 6 weeks from November 11, 2020.
The series of Tsinghua – UTokyo Joint Symposium started in 2016. In July 2018 Tsinghua University and The University of Tokyo signed a strategic partnership agreement and this is the fifth joint symposium.
The wrap-up session was held on December 25, summarizing the strategic partnership activities between the two universities in 2020.
Prof. Watanabe Satoshi started the session with an opening remark to introduce cooperative activity to date. Subsequently in his speech, the keynote speakers, Yang Bin (the vice president and provost of Tsinghua University) and Sekimura Naoto (the vice president of the University of Tokyo), introduced education and global collaboration in the time of novel coronavirus in each university. In their speech, both vice presidents expressed their hopes that the collaboration between the two universities would contribute to solving issues on an international scale.
After that, the following nine online workshops and seminars were shared by the faculty members from both universities. These online events have facilitated multidisciplinary academic exchanges in the lively discussion.

Finally, the outline of the student event scheduled in next March was introduced. It is hoped that this event will continue to provide an opportunity cross-cultural experience for students at various levels.
