Tsinghua University and TheUniversity of Tokyo
Over the past five decades, Japan and China have cultivated a close relationship founded on mutual trust and cooperation. We have deepened our economic ties, expanded our cultural exchanges, and worked together to address shared challenges.
This partnership not only signifies the enduring friendship between Japan and China but also underscores the pivotal role that academic collaboration has played in strengthening our ties over the past half-century.
At the forefront of that international partnership have been the University of Tokyo and Tsinghua University. We have consistently worked together to advance knowledge, foster understanding, and promote cultural exchanges.
We signed our first academic agreement in 1985. As a sign of the mutual trust that we were then able to build, in 2013 we began our university-wide student exchanges, and in 2018 we established our strategic partnership. Under those agreements, hundreds of student and faculty exchanges have taken place.
This project aims to create comprehensive, reciprocal, and special relationships that go beyond usual exchange agreements by taking advantage of the strengths of both partner universities, especially in areas where those strengths complement each other. Over the past decade, UTokyo’s Strategic Partnership Project has facilitated advanced research collaborations, enhanced the mobility of faculty, and provided cross-cultural experiences for students at all levels.
Because of the success of this project, we can envision a future where our collaboration knows no bounds, where we continue to inspire each other, and where we contribute to the betterment of our societies and the world.
